Hi Don. I was head of the Intentional Release Virality Department at the CDC for 18 years.

Basically, we invented new and deadly viruses for use in warfare.

The CDC has underground labs all over the country where these things are made.

So you're suggesting this virus originated from one of these bases?

Almost certainly. Specifically, it looks like a strain of Juniper-17.
