The nation - and the world - continues to watch a small area of Kentucky...

... which has now been dubbed the "Knox Exclusion Zone".

While officials downplay the danger of the virus...

... the actions of the military suggest they are taking no chances.

A miles-long fence topped with razor wire south of Louisville...

... guarded by military patrols and, it's rumored, by machine guns on the other side...

... separates the Zone from the rest of Kentucky.

Our reporter Daryl Cranton is on the scene.

Empty streets. Military rule. Fear and panic.

I'm not describing a movie, but a scene playing out here in Kentucky.

Several towns, including Muldraugh and West Point...

... along with surrounding areas, are now cut off from the rest of the world.

The phones are down, and there's no way in or out.

Despite officials paying for accomodation for people trapped outside the Zone...

... hundreds of tents have sprung up as people wait for a way to get inside.

This isn't Russia. You can't just keep people locked up.

What if this virus is deadly? Do they want everyone inside to catch it?

My mother's trapped inside there. I'm real scared.

I don't care about the virus. I just want to be with my children.
