VHS: From Ore to Store

Welcome to my workshop. I'm Edmund Jonson, blacksmith.

All metal originates from the earth's crust.

Ore is mined, by hand or machine, and then processed and purified.

These days, blacksmiths create their work from commercially available ingots.

These ingots may be elemental, like iron or gold, or an alloy, like steel.

Furnaces come in many forms, but they all melt metal, usually using charcoal as fuel...

... which is then shaped into ingots or bars using a clay mold.

The more intricate shaping and heating of the metal happens at the forge.

*hammering*

With practice, you can make everything from a simple baking tray...

... to a battle-ready sword.

Keep your nose to the grindstone and who knows what you can forge!
