Working Clay at Home
Yannah Hyerson has been guiding novice pottery students for almost forty years. Now, let her guide you in the art of clay shaping and pot making. The only thing you need - is the clay!
Welcome to my pottery class. I'm Yannah Hyerson.
To start, all you need is a pottery bench or wheel, and some clay.
Clay can be purchased at craft stores or even found in the ground if you're very lucky.
Most pottery items require clay and water or sand.
It's best to start simple with bowls or mugs before advancing...
... to more exacting items like clay bricks or tiles.
The sculpted clay objects are then fired in a kiln to harden them.
And don't worry if your sculpt collapses, or your clay is too runny or thick.
It's all part of the learning process. Don't give up!
