ซีดี

When I wrote the following pages, or rather the bulk of them, I lived alone...

...in the woods, a mile from any neighbor, in a house which I had built myself...

...on the shore of Walden Pond, in Concord, Massachusetts.

I lived there two years and two months.

At present I am a sojourner in civilized life again...

Some have asked what I got to eat...

...if I did not feel lonesome; if I was not afraid; and the like.

I will therefore ask my readers to pardon me if I undertake...

...to answer some of these questions in this book...

...The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.

Most of the luxuries, and many of the so-called comforts of life...

...are not only dispensable, but hindrances to the elevation of mankind...

I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself...

... than be crowded on a velvet cushion...

Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity!

I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand...

Simplify, simplify. Instead of three meals a day, have one.

Instead of a hundred dishes, five; and reduce other things in proportion...

...The light which puts out our eyes is darkness to us.

Only that day dawns to which we are awake. There is more day to dawn.

The sun is but a morning star.
